Will my SE Rankings be affected by this change to my URL?

Hey Guys,

I've just had some work done on a nav bar, and this or something similar is now showing up at the end of each url ?open=menu_four

It is so that a different drop down menu appears on my nav bar on certain pages and this is the only way I could get around adding a drop down menu because a template file that runs the outside of the pages.

I'm not too sure what effect this will have on anything, does anybody know?

Thanks in advance,
Wes

Well it won't help if that's what your asking. I doubt it will do much harm. Just make sure you SEO the rest well.

As long as it doesn't cause any harm then thats all I'm bothered about.
If you don't mind me asking Adrian, how do you know this?

Thanks,
Wes

I don't think it'll make any difference, really. The only thing that I can think of is that the menu might not be visible to the search engines. If you can go view > source and look at the source code, that's pretty much what the search engines see (except for things that it's been told to ignore, like things that are commented out). If you can't see your sub-menu there, then the search engine spiders probably won't be able to see it either.

But so long as you have other links to the pages on your site, and/or a site map, it should be fine.

If you're really concerned about the URL (which I don't think you should be) then you can try replacing "menu_four" with something that has your keywords in it.

All the best,
Mark

Thanks for both your inputs :) I might try it with the keywords just to put my mind at ease a bit.

Cheers,
Wes
