Will Adding AdSense On My Site Affect My Ranking?

Hello,

Can anyone tell me if adding Google Adsense ads to a new site will hurt your ranking in Google if you don't allow your site to rank first before adding Google Adsense ads?

Adding AdSense to your site shouldn't hurt your rankings/chance of ranking -- in theory.

HOWEVER... Google (since the Panda update) may penalize your site if it considers that it has "too much" advertising, particularly in the top part of the page (above the fold). Basically they don't want visitors to your site to have a bad experience.... you know, you click through trying to find some content, and you're smacked with a screen full of ads with the content all the way down the bottom.

If you're careful to make sure that your content is top quality and receives prominence on the page, and your ads don't smack visitors in the face... you should be alright.

But personally I would wait until I was seeing some steady traffic to the page before I started experimenting with AdSense. That way I'd be able to see if adding it had any impact.

Aletta's right, and be sure not to add adsense to a site that's under construction or a site that's empty of any content they don't like that at all.

Adding AdSense to your site will not cause it to lose from Google's good graces, unless you have too much advertising on the site and no content as both Aletta and Andrew mentioned. AdSense works best on blogs that are getting regular traffic. If you have an affiliate marketing site and want to put AdSense on it, then that's fine but I wouldn't recommend keeping AdSense on your affiliate site for long periods of time as the ads can and tend to complete with the products you're promoting.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!
