 Referral traffic is method of reporting visits that came to your site from sources outside of its search engine. When somebody clicks on a your sites hyperlink to go to a new page on a different website, So Google analytics tracks referral visit to the another site

 Referral traffic is is when someone clicks on a hyperlink (posted on different site like a guest post, classified site, coupons, forum, etc) that goes to your website. The originating site is called a “referrer” because it refers traffic from one place to the your site.

So, if the traffic comes from a searching engine other than Google, Google considers it referral traffic?

So, referral traffic doesn't need to be generated by referral links as in affiliate programs.
If I'm a member of a forum about economics, I quote an article and I insert a link to that article, that link will produce referral traffic?

 So many long descriptions, Referral traffic is simply someone coming to your site from another site. You may have posted on a forum and left your link and someone there liked your comment and click on your link. That simple.
