What are these used for as far as backlinks

I have asked many questions on the forum with many good answers so i am asking another question, I was listening to a lesson today on affilorama hosted by Mark ling with a seo expert, I listened to it a couple times and much of the info is great but some is confusing, on the webinar the guy talks about when starting a new site and wants to get backlinks he will go to Cuantcast, whois, siteadvisor, aboutdomain, Robtex and a few others. I went to all these sites and they all look like sites that give you stats on your site. I didn't see anywhere on the site that said they were a directory or anywhere to ad my site so I can get a backlink so I am really confused as to why I am going to these sites. what am i supposed to be doing there for bacakinks. thanks Mark

 Great webinar, one of the best here.

What you do to get a link from these sites is to add your url to the end of the url given.

here is an one of the examples given.

http://whoisya.com

What you do is add your url to the end like this.

http://whoisya.com/www.yoursite.com

When you do this it takes it as a query about you rsite, as your site won't be in it's data base it will be added automatically. Thus giving you a link.

 Thanks jc dean, i didn't know that is how it worked since no one told me but it just seemed odd to go on the site put in my url and get stats from it and not have a place to add to any kind of directory, Mark

The methods taught inside are very very good.. but they are quite manual and monotonous... haha.. I guess when it comes to backlinks thats always the way how it is
