Use of directory submission

Directory subission is one of the off page optimization techniques and its very helpful to us for diverting traffic, increase search engine popularity and brand awareness.
Here are it’s some features,
- It gives you considerable traffic
- It exposes your website to a larger audience
- Improves your search engine visibility

 While it is easy to submit to directories, I do not consider this as good way to build backlinks since most of these sites have the same IPs and some sites tend to become inactive after several months.

For a new website perhaps, you can add directory submission as one way to get backlinks fast. But then, it is advised to focus more on quality link building like article submission, blog commenting, and guest posting.

 In regards to directory submissions, Mark states:

1) Only submit to quality directories
2) Don't go for reciprocal directories
3) Avoid mass submission
4) Look for empty categories

 Hello all

Directory submissions usually will not get any TARGETED visitors to your site because the only people that will see your listing will be people putting a listing up for their sites,so these visits are of little value.

Generaly they will not expose you to more TARGETED visitors because your listing will not come up in search results and few people will be doing a search on the directory site itself.

Google gives little value to link directory links and if your build many links on them Google will easily recognize this as un-natural and will more than likely hurt your S.E. rankings.

Go ahead and get a few of these links if you wish but do not make this a large part of your link building strategy.

 Directory submission are not giving good results so don't relay on directory submission better submit on high pagerank directories and concentrate on other parts too

 The only use of directory submissions nowadays is to build backlinks. However, due to the spam Google has stopped giving value to most of the general web directories.

 As for now, both directory submission and press releases became somehow outdated SEO techniques. However, they are not completely useless, because they are still functional as outreach tactics and can be used to expose information online and get it noticed in professional circles. Directory submission won’t actually hurt your search engine rankings, but it doesn’t make sense to count on this technique entirely to improve them significantly.
