No, I won't risk that or any other "back hat" techniques. Currently, it is best to stop doing anything that is against Google's guidelines.

On another note, if you can make your cloaked link no-follow, is it still safe? Perhaps, affiliates who use link cloaking in their site can better answer your concern :)

Hi,
Link cloaking and link redirects are two very separate things that can be confused to be the same.
You will get better clickthroughs and conversions by converting ugly, long, unreadable affiliate links into shorter redirects and it is not a bad thing or something that will get you penalized.
I really like the Pretty Link plugin for Wordpress.
