Hello

I hear it mentioned in Webinars, but can anyone name a (or several), good/cheap company that does the job of directory listing your website please?

Thank you

directory lists are mostly a waste of time...... The only good ones is yahoo directory if you pay around 200$ i believe each year. Dmoz is also very good but you have to apply for that and its pretty hard to get in there. If you are running a affiliate site you can forget about it. But if you have a real business with a phone number contact persons with names and a address you could have a valid chance to get into dmoz..

You may look at Digixmas directory submitter. This is a software for directory submission. However, I must agree that directory listings are useless, unless you just want to collect easy backlinks in no time.

You may also want to try listing your website in business directory listing like Google Places, Yellow pages, and so on.

okay thank you both for your replies.

'waste of time' and 'useless'; does this mean that directory listings have no affect on helping your site gain better placing in SERP's?
If so does Mark Ling need to update he's off-page SEO tips to reflect this sentiment?

Thank you

Directory submission has an effect in your rank, of course. As said earlier, submitting to directories is one quick way you can get backlinks, most especially if your website is new.

I should have made my claim "useless" clearer. It is highly suggested that you focus more on "quality" links rather than "quantity". You may get 10 quality links, which can rank keywords on top pages as opposed to building 1000 backlinks from directories.

Based from experience, most of these directories are not permanent links too. Once your listing expires on their sites, the number of your backlinks may go down as well, thus, affecting your ranking. You may do directory submission for collecting quick number of backlinks but in time, you may do another submission just to get listen again.

I suppose directory submission is for basic backlinking process- one thing you should do for new sites without backlinks. But this should be backup by more quality, permanent links as well. :)

Local/regional directory links might be useful if a business is only local, or if it markets both locally and larger. I'm compiling a local list and using it for some of my local service marketing client's sites.

Check your county/region for free listings, like county government directories, Chambers of Commerce, biz associations and SIGs (Special Interest groups) small local online classifieds, and of course Yelp, Google Places, specialty biz lists (restaurants, fashion, etc.) and such.

Yes, directories will drop your listing over time - but most will warn you with an email first. Few people (except local governments) give away free listings anymore (why would they when it's so easy now to monetize a directory?), so be prepared to pay and to monitor results to see if you want to pay again next year.

Cheers!

It is a new paid directory, www.worldlink-now.com. It is 12.00 USD one-time fee, with no recurring charges. You pay once, it lists your business for the life of the business.

Atleast there was one person who mentioned Yellow Pages is a business directory. It is. So are some others that don't call themselves that, but any webstie that takes business listings is a directory. Nothing wrong with that, most likely Worldlink-Now won't be calling itself a directory in the future, per se, as well.

This directory gives you typically a much larger business listing than you otherwise would. It features 1 pic in front/ up to 20 in back, a slideshow and slider at no additional cost where you can add more pics. You also get unlimited text to describe your business.

It is marketed and promoted and at it's early stage it is a Google PR 2 website. It is indexed in many search engines around the world, especially Google around the world. If you list on the website, your listing (and your website link) will get crawled most likely within one month and indexed faster.

You can pick up to 3 categories to choose from over 4700. Think about it this way. Yellow Pages has many categories, but they don't list them. In the same fashion, you can search whichever category you are interested in or scroll through all the categories themselves.

This way when you get indexed, you could get up to 3 category based specific links from a Google PR 2 website.

It also has a trademark idea in development, never quite been done before in business listings. It is a serious website, and traffic has been known at this early stage to be as high as 1200 + visitors a day.

I would say list here: www.worldlink-now.com.
