Google's 5 Common Mistakes in SEO: What do YOU think?

A few days ago Google posted a video on the 5 Common Mistakes in SEO.

Their SEO tips for the most part fail to impress. I've heard about this over and over they sound cliche:

Do something cool

Stay fresh and relevant


Personally, I find them helpful but not really new. Sometimes, despite following these exact rules in your site, you get hit by the Panda.

I find the ideas that Maile Ohye shared helpful. Especially the first one. I think I should change my site's description to make it more compelling instead of just giving a description of what my site is all about.

    give more value to your reader than your competition does
    be relevant with your inbound, outbound links and internal links
    avoid hacks and workarounds designed to cheat the system
    avoid 'trendy' marketing techniques
    have a dynamic site that can flow with the tide
    be creative
    network and be social

I didn't think that was too bad for one post

 Definitely not bad a post, but like I said, it's not new to me. Maybe it's because those same points have been shared and discussed here in the forums all the time. :)

 Well I hate to say this but I could only understand about half of what she was talking about. Maybe could be her choice of words or something. Since I have many of my sites pages on page 1 and 2 of both google and yahoo I think I will just keep doing what I have been doing. Mark

 Thanks for the feedback Mark. :) I'm glad to hear your pages are ranking on page 1 and 2 of the search engines.

I think it's good practice to be updated on what search engines say and recommend. It is their SERPs that we want to rank in after all.
