Explain me cause for drop-in keywords/website ranking in the search engine?

There are a lot of reasons behind the drop of rankings and this includes link spamming, thin and less quality content, over optimization, no backlinks, also changes in Google algo can be a reason in the drop of or rankings.

How to maintain steady traffic to a website

There is no such thing as steady traffic. You just have to always watch the search engine trends and its algo changes to be able to keep up with these changes. Also as long as you follow proper onsite optimization and white hat offsite SEO techniques, you will likely have no problem with rankings :)

In case of a sudden rank drop, the usual suspects are,
1) Your links became outdated and that means that you have lost a large number of your backlink profile (this is unlikely);
2) Google released a new algorithm update, which declared a number of your links as spammy or low in quality or
3) Google could be testing its ranking system on your target keywords and you may be experiencing a bit of rank fluctuation.
If this is the case, your rank will slowly return to its original position.
If that is not the case, you should consider new link building tactics and use a more natural, long term strategy.
