Are Mini Sites Still Effective These Days Or Not Anymore?

I am thinking of creating new sites but not sure of what to do whether the mini sites with only 5 to 10 pages or authority sites with more than 25 or more pages? With all these changes going on in the internet it looks like mini sites are not working good as before. I will be happy to hear your opinion on this. Your answers will help me figure out what to do before I create my new sites. Thank you very much!

Hello JUDERM

From what I have read about the recent google penguin update, the size and age of a site does make a difference. I personaly had a site that was starting to do well with 60+ visitors per day and #1 in google for two ok keywords drop to #2 after the penguin update. Amazon which was #3 before the update was made #1 apparently because it is a very large athority site and is well known.

The page that amazon is #1 for is a simple sales page offering a world of warcraft strategy guide which is my niche. My site has 54 pages but amazons 1 page is #1 apparently because amazon is well known.

Im not sure that is the only reason but it seams to be. Quality content and size seems to be an important factor with the penguin update.

Have a great day!

Hi JudeRM,

If you are more keen to creating 5-10 page site, I suggest that you just link a blog page to this website so you can still create content and update your site with fresh content.

I must agree with Paul on content. These days, updates by Google is geared towards quality, fresh content. So you may want to consider content a lot when creating your site.

HI

Mini sites are still good.. as suggested go for a blog and keep adding posts.

authority sites are built over time and not in days ..(As was Rome !!!)

Build a lot of mini sites -- as they are quick to build and will keep your interest... then after sometime (you decide your duration) visit them again and keep adding ... Give it a few years ....

Thanks Paul, Mary and anuj2911 for your advise! I have a question to Mary. What do you mean when you say,

..."I suggest that you just link a blog page to this website so you can still create content and update your site with fresh content."...

Does it mean that I will find a good blog post with great content from other blogs that talks about my niche then create a new quality content post in my blog with an anchor text linking to that other blog's great post content.
AM I CORRECT in understanding it? Looks like a blog curation idea. I look forward to your answer. Thanks a lot!

HI Juderm,

I apologize for the confusion.

What I meant was, if you plan to put up content pages that you think will not be updated to much, then I suggest you add your own blog page so you can still update your website with fresh content.

Also, if I may add, try to have a "resource" page or a "blogroll" list into your website so you can make your site credible by linking to other good and related resources on the web.

I heard a lot of people who've added a resource page on their website and this resource page seemed to be working well for them as the page is one of their top pages in terms of traffic.

You can also insert few links to your affiliates in the resource page.
