About Google Dance

I was wondering about if anyone knows about the Google Dance that sites are going thru. I have
a website that has been up since Feb 2012. I have added more pages and it is mostly product from Amazon and just a few pages of articles.

I found it on page 16 a few days ago and a friend saw as page on on Yahoo.

Does anyone know how long this Google Dance will last, a month, six months 1 year, and a life time? How soon will this stop?

Hi teresa461,

The Google Dance can take up as long as 6 months to a year. I suggest you focus on building links to your website. Your site's ranking will always be moving a few steps up or down, what's more important is building links to your site and driving traffic to it.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Hi Teresa,

The last update was May 4. You can view the entire year's updates here- http://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change#view-all

No one knows how long it is but I am guessing it can take until a year of updates. But you can use the link above to get regular updates :)

This is similar to what is happening to my site. How come when my site reached the page 1 #1 position in the Google search it always drops to page 60. This is happening on and off. Everytime it reached page 1 after 2 or 3 days it drops to page 60 again then few days later rising up again little by little. Is this also counted as Google Dance? Or is this a penalty issue? I can't tell because as far as I know I made the On Page SEO not over optimize and I had quite new posts created but the only thing that I am doubtful about is I have only 4 new pages posted so far and a total of 90 backlinks plus I have not done any new backlinks since about 3 months ago. My site is only about 8 months old or younger. Hope I can get some advise also from you there who have much experience. Thanks a lot!

You have some great questions Jude, I am not sure about it. Hopefully you will get some answers to your questions.

I thought of another question myself, If your site goes down in the Google Dance then does it mean that your site is penalized. Not sure of this so I thought I would ask.

@JUdeRM

This is expected as your website is just new. Yes this could be because of Google Dance. Don't worry about it, just keep building high quality links on your target pages. Once you have accommodated enough links, your ranking will soon become stable.

Hi JUDERM,

This is characteristic of what is usually referred to as "Google Dance". You would notice, for about 6 months or more after putting the site up, a fluctuation in ranking. Today your site is on 10th page, tom on the first, then the next day your site is on the 60th. That's normal because search engines are still determining your website's relevance to its target keywords. I suggest you focus on getting traffic to your site. Build backlinks to your site.

Your site's rank will always go up and down the SERPs.What's more important is to get traffic to your site and get it earning an income for you.

Hope that helps. Have a good weekend!

The Google dance is a term that was used years ago to describe the fluctuations in ranks that were caused when about every month or so Google would re-index the WWW As different data centers were updated with the new information results would vary based on which data center your query was directed to.
