Here is what you can do:

First put your entire strategy on an excel sheet. Divide your link building strategy into segments like directory submission, article submission etc. Assign each of them a date and number of hours. Follow that through. Don't let new information deviate you from the plan.

Also , use TT kw analysis tool to give yourself a target. Setting a specific # of links to build to each page will help rather than just posting links indefinitely.

What I do is take the average of the top 10 sites, double it, and build that # of links to each page, then check rankings and see which pages still need more.

it is easier to have a measurabl goal that you can control. just saying build links until you reach the top of google is setting a goal to something outside of your control

I know it is overwhelming to start building backlinks. Like Sonitin suggested, getting everything in excel is one way to get organized. Also, remember to track everything you are doing. It is not just a matter of collecting links, but also try to record your efforts at least after a month of building links.This way, you will know if your efforts are working. Good luck!
