 From my point of view, the most effective link building happens when you receive editorial style backlinks from other bloggers who are linking to you out of genuine interest. These bloggers will be your biggest supporters and are likely to review your website as a service to their own users. The best way to get these type of backlinks is by publishing very good evergreen content that attracts backlinks. You might go one step further by contacting the page owers of similar sites and asking them to link to your content.

 I would like to mention another excellent link building strategy called link baiting. This should happen on its own accord. In other words some external website or blog owner links your website to his. This is a strong SEO method.

Even Matt Cutts approved of link baiting. Usually to make link baiting work, you would want to publish a useful (and extensive) list that is relevant to your niche. For instance, if you are in SEO industry, you could post a list, 'Top 100 sites online to get do follow backlinks'. And, other bloggers in SEO/internet marketing will quote and link to your post as you have already done all the hard work. This concept of link bait with a useful list can be applied to any niche or industry.

Another type of link bait is an infographic that others are free to use on their site with a link back to the page where they found it.
