I've only got the free version myself but It is certainly a useful tool. The free version only pulls backlinks from yahoo from my understanding, whereas the paid version pulls backlink data from a lot more sources and allows you to export the data. One thing to consider is yahoo site explorer is being discontinued from my understanding, so not sure what will happen. They may well switch over to majestic seo or they could already be using this for all I know.
The tool is worth while in my opinion, it gives good information on the links such as pr, anchor text, link type, if the link is still present as well as many other things. I usually use traffic travis first to quickly scan the top 10 results, then dig down with seo spyglass in to the top 3.
There is a free version you can try so that would be a good idea. One thing to be aware of with regard to the paid version is there is a monthly charge after the first 6 months. You can either pay the monthly charge every month or every 6 months or every year for a lower price.
