How to let search engines crawl your site quicker?

Hi Guys,

What's the best way to help the search engines crawl your site?

I.e. after posting new content, I want to let the search engines that I have new content on my site..

What is the best way to do this?

 When you create new content, send the search engines a new "sitemap.xml" file. If you're using WordPress, you can just install Joost de Valk's WordPress-SEO plugin and it will automate that for you.

Thanks.. but will this interfere with the Platinum SEO plugin that I already have installed?

Probably it would interfere with your current SEO plugin. Joost's is the best SEO plugin by far, in my opinion - and that of thousands. But it's not Mark Ling's favorite. Also you'd have to review all content, to see what you could do to improve SEO with the new plugin.

This shows the importance of starting out with the best plugins.

If your SEO plugin can't automatically update sitemaps and you want to keep using it, then maybe you can find another plugin to just update sitemaps - or do them manually every time you publish something (perhaps using your Google Webmaster Tools account).

 Hi,

Yes, there are specific xml sitemap plugins that do only that. Get one installed and configured. Next thing to look at is the pinging, there are several lists that contain tons of ping urls so get that setup. Next step is building backlinks!

 Whenever I put up a new page, put new information on a page or pretty much do anything to my site I will have that page pinged, what that does is sends the search engines a note that kind of says hay I am here come see what I have to show you.
