Gray hat SEO uses techniques that are in between the white hat and black hat which may result to improve rankings or it may also result from getting a penalty from Google. An example of a gray hat technique is using an automated tool to build backlinks but in moderation and only choosing sites that have high page rank and are related to the niche.

I've known people who have made a quick buck on blackhat/greyhat SEO methods, but it usually never lasts because they keep getting banned or blacklisted from the search engines.
Whitehat SEO is more time consuming, but will provide you consistent traffic over time and you don't run any risks of a ban.

In simple terms, "grey hat" SEO is an SEO practice which can be considered by search engines as something 'ill-advised. In other words, it's 'black' disguised as 'white as some experts would say. A good example of this is click baiting where someone place an attractive link or a summary of a content that entices a reader to click on it to read more...:)

Grey hat seo is more of a black hat technique which can be riskier for your website. It is the practice of using technically legal methods to improve your site rankings, but which are ethically dubious, and could one day become black hat. Think of it like legal highs.

Gray hat SEO is neither white or nor a black. these are so-called gray hat techniques because they are riskier to go long time with them.

Well, gray hat SEO is combination of both white hat seo and black hat SEO.
But it would be good if you use only white hat SEO for better result.

It's SEO practice that remains “ill-defined” and/or “ill-advised” by search engine published guidelines and which can be disagreeable. In essence, it’s Black Hat masquerading as White Hat.

Grey Hat SEO is the combination of white hat and black hat SEO. It is middle of those hats that is why it is called Grey hat SEO.

It consists of techniques like duplicating content,link buying and purchasing old domains.
