Google Penalized many Flight Industry Web Sites

Hi Everyone,

Google penalized flight industry websites By removing their rich snippets. Google's John Mueller confirmed yesterday in a Google Hangout on Google+ that Google took action on major travel sites for showing product pricing rich snippets for airline prices.

Comments are welcome.

This is not really a huge issue. I have read that Google dislikes websites offering a bunch of products on one page, which most airlines and travel sites do. To avoid penalty, refrain from posting different products in one page when your page clearly says 'flights to Hawaii'. People should only see results on Hawaii flights only; not a bunch of different products.

I agree with maryt. I have also reviewed and what I noticed is a bunch of sites were using many products as a way to kind of markup a variety of products instead of just one product.

It's not surprising Google would penalize such websites. They've been on a quality campaign for a few years now, ensuring that search engine results are exactly what the user is looking for.

If you're searching for flights to a specific destination, but get to a page that has several different destinations... well, it can get confusing.

Similar websites will soon follow, unless they streamline their pages' content to promote only 1 product.
