Adwords - Phrase & Exact match

hi guys

i am having a tough time with ppc (trying to teach myself &and learn from my low CTR) its a long road lol

i have recently read (cant remember whare) that if you are in a popular niche that using broad match keywords is not the best idea. the reason was that there would be to much competition

however targeting a subniche with phrase match keywords would be better. to try and (laser target)
i think for the niche that im in phrase match would work better for me.

i understand BROAD and NEGATIVE
but can someone explain PRHASE match and EXACT match
