How does a complete technophobe create a good opt-in form?

Hi there,

I've got a wordpress blog website and I'd like to drive traffic to one particular page where I want there to be a nice-looking opt-in form.

I am a total technophobe and have no idea where to start with this. I've Youtubed it and Googled it but they all assume more knowledge than I have!

Also, I'd love to create a nice pop-up that comes up after say 30 seconds (a bit like the affilorama box that comes up on my screen sometimes when I come back to the site).

Can someone tell me the best place to get help with all this?

I'm thinking of outsourcing the whole thing, but part of me also wants to learn how it's done myself!

AffiloRama has a free pop-up tool generator at: https://www.affilorama.com/writing-tools ... -generator

It is easy to design. Works well with Internet Explorer, Firefox & Chrome latest versions.

Thanks Margene. I will check that out. Does it include a tool/way to create a normal sign-up box as well?

I'd like one on the page too!

On page opt-in forms would be available from the autoresponder service you have chosen. There you should find a set of questions to answer. The answers provided build the basic form. After the basic form is completed you can customize its appearance.

It would be best to have a 15 second delay for your popover because it gives the reader time to become engaged in your content. Most people decide whether they will stay on a website after 3-5 seconds. If they are still there at 10 seconds, they will likely remain until 15 and probably be even further engaged by then. If you supplement the content already there with additional, free details (through your popover), you'll get more sign ups.

You would also need to set the “recurrence”. This means how often the popover will appear for the same visitor. If your popover appears on all of your pages and shows up each time for the same visitor on all of your the pages then hat would be annoying. Set your recurrence to just once for a single visitor or set it for a specific number of days so that it will not appear spammy. Visitors will be more receptive to your mailing list if you set it to appear for a specific number of days.

Seeing as you need to be a Premium member to get the pop-up form there are other options that will give you the optin page .... go to Aweber and have a play around, you'll be surprised at what you can achieve. Their tutorials are also really easy to understand,

or have a look through the Wordpress plugin options, there are a couple there that are especially designed for creating optin boxes

or you can pay for an optin template - like Optimizepress. Glenn Alsopp (aka Viperchill) has a video showing how this works at http://www.viperchill.com/blueprint-vi/. (not an affiliate link)

Good luck
