How do you go about submitting your blog to all the major search engines?

 Hi Jason,

You can submit your site's URL to Google at: Submit Your Content-Google

You can submit your site to Yahoo and Bing through the Bing Webmaster Tools:
Submit your Site to Bing

 So if we have a stand alone blog with google blogger, they do not submit it automatically?

 Hi Jason,

No, websites including Blogger blogs are not submitted to Google automatically. You as website owner will have to. This doesn't mean search engines will not index your site. They will still crawl and index it. Submitting it to search engines quickens the process though.

Another way to make search engines know your site is live is to ping the site each time you have new content on it. You can do this through sites like Pingler.

This is entirely a matter of preference. I use Wordpress most of the time because of the easy interface and flexibility. There are so many things you can do with a Wordpress site, and there are plenty of themes and plugins to choose from as well.

Blogger is catching up, but personally, I think Wordpress beats them on all levels.

I am also into Tumblr these days. It's very easy to use, and it's like a blog and social site rolled into one. There's a lot of content-sharing going on.

If you write good, keyword-rich content and post it plus tag it and categorize it right, you shouldn't have to submit it manually. Just track your site to see if it's online yet. So some searches for your domain as well as for your primary keywords to see how you rank.

This is true, but if your site is entirely new, it helps to submit it to search engines so that they could index the site faster. This would also mean that your site will be included in the SERPs quicker.
