Help re adding more than 1 domain name to my hosting package

Hi all
well i am still reading lots of material, i have registered 2 domain names
i'm a little stuck.

I'm hosting with the godaddy delux package so i can have unlimited web sites, the 2 names i registgered are thelanguageslearner.co.uk and thelanguageslearner.com.

1. i have set up thelanguageslearner.co.uk on godaddy, how do i set up my other domain name to run as well on the same delux package, i know it shares bandwidth etc but can't seem to figure it out,
2. i intend for both sites to be the exactly the same, just trying to capitalize if someone puts .com or .co.uk (is this what you call a subdomain?)
what do i do next???
3. the landing page that i have set up is just a basic page but with some affiliate packages on just to try and get started, got lots of ideas to expand the site over the next couple of months, translation etc but this all takes time.
4. as i said the main prob is getting both sites onto the same hosting package,
5. then that brings the other question, how to upload my sites.

i think i'm going to be in here quite a bit over the next few months
but all help much appreciated, i have set out my goals for the next 1/2 years and there is no doubt that with a lot of hard work/time and effort, i am determined to make affiliate marketing a successful venture for me.

look forward to your help

Paul

I don't know how godaddy works, but Dale, hostgator is really simple.

You just go to the add subdomain area in cpanel, fill in the blanks, then upload your site folder to the www or public_html folder.

Voila :)

Hi Don,

I have never setup 2 domains to 1 host but I think i might have some idea how to do it.

1) Godaddy sends you the DNS SERVER NAMES in your email. You might need this in a minute.

2) Login to your account in go daddy and at the top you'll see "Domains" hover over it and a list will pop down below it.. click on My Domain Names.

3) What you will see is all your registered domain names.. for these to work correctly they need to extract your pages and images from a hosting server, the hosting server is what holds all this for you. You do this by setting your DNS so the domain knows where to find your hosting server. Click the checkbox next to one of your domains and click on NAMESERVERS.

4) One way that might work is to click on the DEFAULT NAMESERVERS tab and click on DEFAULT HOSTING NAMESERVERS. If that doesn't work then click on CUSTOM NAMESERVERS and put in the DNS names you got from godaddy in your email.

Repeat steps 3 & 4 for your other domain name. Now they should both be pointing to the same Host

Let me know if it didn't work.

Oh and to answer your question about the subdomain. A subdomain is an extension to your existing domain. I don't think thats a good definition actually so heres an example. theres google.com and adsense.google.com . adsense is where google manages all the adsense(obviously). It is a different topic than google search engine so they created a subdomain for it. Makes things easier to manage and for people to go straight to the adsense login screen.

To add multiple domains onto a Godaddy hosting package, see this FAQ from the Godaddy site:

http://help.godaddy.com/article.php?art ... Daddy&isc=

Usually what you need to do is make it so your domain is pointing to your hosting nameservers (as others have mentioned). There's then a feature in your Godaddy control panel (I don't think they use cPanel, but in cPanel it's called "addon domains". See the FAQ above, though.)

In this section you enter the domain name you want to host, and it'll create a folder on your server with the domain name. Then you'll need to wait 12-24 hours for it to update, and your domain name should point to this folder.

The other thing you can do if you're just planning on having the same content on both sites is have one site redirect to the other.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Once again thanks everyone. I had known how to add a subdomain to my Hostgator account, it was just knowing how to go about adding a new domain. I had figured that on getting my second domain through Netfirms I had to point it to my Hostgator account. The question was where on C-Panel I had to set it up. Cheers Mark - you've pointed me to where I thought I should go - the only thing that held me back was the comment at the top of the page there 'Addon Domains are domain names that point to subdirectories within your account'.
Anyway thanks for the help guys ... now to test ...
