Help! Missing the www in my domain name.

I just installed created my new site and installed wordpress. I had some issues so I had to delete some files and folders and reinstall wordpress. Only problem is now my site is missing the www at the beginning. How can I fix this? So, instead of http://www.example.com it is http://example.com. I have not created any redirects or done anything else except the install but I must have deleted something I should not have. Any help much appreciated.

Sign in to your WordPress Dashboard, go to Settings > General, and enter your preferred URL format in the "WordPress address (URL)" and "Site address (URL)" fields. Then save the changes.

Yes I thought about doing this but I was wondering if what I have done with the install will cause problems for me later and if there is something missing that I shouldn't have deleted and can be reinstalled before I start builind my site out?

I do not think it is anything that you deleted. I believe it's because the default URL format in a new WordPress installation is the non-www format.

Hi,

Your domain will still function correctly if someone types it with the www or without. Ideally, you should setup your canonicalization (there is a wordpress plugin that does this) in order to minimize duplicate content. Also, setup your site in Google webmaster tools and select which version of your domain (www or non www) you would prefer Google to use as well.

If you know how to edit your .htaccess file, you may try the suggestions in this thread: How to have www in my wordpress site's URL
