Domain Names

Hi All,

I was just wondering does anyone use a specific system or set of rules when it comes to deciding what to call their site or domain name? Especially when you find that the domain you originally wanted to purchase has allready been taken.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Phil,

When deciding on a domain name, I keep the following three in mind:

>>> has to be a .com
>>> interesting and easy to remember
>>> describe what my site is in a nutshell

I tend to avoid domain names that have characters like "-" or any special characters because these tend to confuse users, or users forget about them and they end up on a different site.

Try and play with words so you can get a quirky and interesting domain name. Users tend to remember one-of-a-kind domain names.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

Hi Phil,

There are no rules for this but you need to have a list of keywords or key phrases to use as your domain name. This way you will not have a hard time coming up with your own domain name in case the first choice is taken.

Certainly, everyone prefers .com because this is an extension that is popular. If in case, you cannot really find something using .com, you can also use .info or .edu :)

Cecille made good suggestions, you can make use of those
