Bad Start

I am just starting out in affiliate marketing, and I bought a domain name last week to learn the ropes with. After buying the domain name, I registered it with HostGator and uploaded WordPress. From that point I tried to add a theme, so I used Socrates and I and added Platinum SEO. In the spirit of Mark Ling I wanted to jump in and learn as I go and learn from my mistakes.

Thanks

Jason

(For some reason my 1st post did not post in its entirety)

I am just starting out in affiliate marketing, and I bought a domain name last week to learn the ropes with. After buying the domain name, I registered it with HostGator and uploaded WordPress. From that point I tried to add a theme, so I used Socrates and I also added Platinum SEO. In the spirit of Mark Ling I wanted to jump in and learn as I go and learn from my mistakes. I wanted to get the site up and running, but I didn't want the site to go live or be indexed until it was ready. So I got another WP plugin to show that mysite is under construction, and I can work on it privately.

At this point I can't tell if my site has been indexed. I don't want it to get indexed prematurley with no content...I heard that google may not update the site until 6 months later. I know that WP has an option to switch it to private and tell search engines not to search, but I heard that could cause issues as well.

How do you handle this issue with starting new sites that aren't ready to be indexed? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jason

Hi,

If you get the xml sitemap plugin setup correctly and ping properly, I wouldn't worry about it. Build out the site and the search engines will be pinged each time you create or update new content. Building backlinks to pages/posts also will get the spiders crawling back to you.

Hi Jason,

Like esolutions said, you don't have to worry about it.

As long as you are updating your website with fresh content and developing it with good navigation and graphics, then you do not have to worry about Google indexing your pages right away.

The most important thing is that you are improving your website. Just focus on building your site first.

Good luck!
