AffiloTheme - Launch Header Creator errors

I'm hosting on my own web server using Win2008 Server R2, IIS7.

When I open AffiloTheme > Header Settings > Launch Header Creator
1. On the actual server, window opens, I get error "The website cannot display the page. HTTP 500"
2. From a computer on the same lan, blank window opens.

In both cases the opening url is http://domainname/wordpress/wp-admin/admin.php?page=affilo_header_settings.

I have removed READ ONLY on the wordpress folder and sub folders.

Sorry I can't provide specific advice. But in general:

Almost all WordPress installations are on UNIX Apache servers with late versions of PHP and MySQL installed. I haven't kept up with the progress on Windows web servers or Microsoft IIS, but neither are very popular. I assume there are good reasons why Apache has taken over that market.

Have you succeeded in getting any WordPress blogs at all working well on your IIS server?

With shared hosting services using Apache so common, so easy to use, so trouble-free and so inexpensive, I'm pretty surprised you would setup your own web server. Don't mean to be critical - just a thought....

Hi jimcoe thank you for your reply.

I totally agree with your comments in particular using Apache and to this end one of my next steps is to move to CentOS running Apache.
Following this and when my affilate marketing actions kick off, I well be moving to shared hosting.

What concerns me here is not whether the IIS 7 setup works, but that AffiloTheme currently does not Launch the Head Creator tool which I would have though would be a basic operation that should work on any web server setup.

Since posting this problem Support have come back to me and acknowedged there is a problem and they are working on a fix.

So rather than take the easy route and blame the problem on IIS 7, we should soon see this rather basic problem resolved.

Hi colin4,

We have released an update on the Affilotheme last Friday that addresses several issues including issues with the Header Creator. Please make sure to update your copy of the Affilotheme to version 4.0.1544.

Hi Cecille

I have now tried version 4 (downloaded today) and this does not resolve the header creator problem. When I try to use the header Creator tool I still get an HTTP 500 error.

I have emailed support.
I have confirmed after several uninstall and re installs that WordPress by its self is working fine, pages load very quickly.
When Affilotheme is installed (either version) the page load time increases to approx 13 seconds.

I have confirmed that the permissions on the the Affilotheme2 folder are identical to the the other folders in the Theme folder.

Regards Colin

Hello! I just downloaded Affilotheme today and am also having problems with the Header Creator opening up blank.

How can I tell which version of Affilotheme I have downloaded? Has anyone figured out how to get the Header Creator working?

Thanks!

Hi Stephanie.

If you are using IIS 7? hosted on your own server, then at the moment its not looking good.

Take Jimcoe's advice and move to a Linux/Unix hosted solution.

Support advised me there was something missing on my setup, but they have not told me what is missing.

I have tested a Apache web server setup on CentOS this works really well.

However as I still need a IIS7 solution on my own site, and gave up sharing web sites.
I have now moved to a Linux/unix Wordpress hosting solution with Godaddy.com.

As Jimcoe mentioned why would one do it any other way.

Hope this helps.

Hi louisezine,

I'm sorry to hear that. Could you please check if your folders, particularly the wp-content folder, has the correct permissions.

Would it be possible to give us temporary access to your Wordpress admin area to check what's causing the error? If so, please send us your site URL and the temporary login details.

You may create a temporary administrator user in the 'Users' menu of your WordPress site. From your dashboard, go to users on the left hand side. From there you can add a new user, and set the status to admin. then once the staff is done, you can delete the user or change the password.

You may send it through the contact form on our support page.

I appreciate your patience. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi!

When I create a user as an editor, and wants to enter the desktop comes out this error. Only supports administrators. If I install another topic I have no problem ...

Apart from this, today when I upgraded the issues, I disappeared all photos of all my posts! A disaster of last update: (

And finally, every time you update, you have to change the height of the header creator ...

I hope you can help me!

And sorry for my English!

Greetings from Argentina!

Hi lucas.e.vera,

Ola! :)

I have forwarded the issue on the user settings to a member of our technical staff. Regarding the post thumbnails and header creator, could you please let me know what child theme you are using?

Hi,

I just installed Affilotheme 4.0.1698 and still having a problem launching the header creator utility. I tried different browsers with no luck and pretty sure that its a server side issue. This is a windows 2008 R2 server with IIS 7.5. All the other functions seem to be working on other sites I host on this system. Can you tell me if there are any special components or applications I need to install to make this work? Is it Java SDK, flash or something on that idea that renders the creator utility?

Thank you,

Bob S,.

Hi to all

My header does not upload on the affilotheme site after it has been created by using the launch heador creator. Did anyone encounter a similar problem or might have an idea re what is causing said issue?
Thanks for any advice.

Hi rominafarrugia,

I apologize for the delay in responding to your post. Are you still having issues with the header creator? Do you self-host your site or is your site on Affilotheme Hosting? Could you please try clearing your browser's cache then view your site again.

I appreciate your patience and hope to hear from you soon.

For anyone having problems with launching the Header Creator and are hosted on a Windows Server running IIS, then I have a solution that worked for me. I'm using AffiloTheme v4.0.1773 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 installation and I also kept getting the generic Server Error 500 when clicking the Launch Header Creator button.

For me the problem was in the "config.php" file in the "...\themes\affilotheme_2\header_creator\" folder. The way the $basePath variable is created, it will always start with a forward slash, so the path would become something like: "/C:\inetpub\sitename\www". To fix it I just had to edit the "config.php" file and add the following line of code to the very end (on it's own line):

All this line of code does is strip the very first character off the $basePath variable to get rid of the forward slash.

Hopefully the developers will be able to get this quick little Windows Server fix in for the next version.
