really, bookmarking alone is just another way people spam links. Honestly, its the relationships you build with the bookmarking community that determines if it will be effective. if you spend time on their site, networking, and trying to treat the people like they are real people not just numbers to line your bank account, you can get a lot of impact.
I fell into that trap early on in my business as well.
Then I realized I was one of the spammers people couldn't stand on their site.
Sadly, most affiliates just use social sites to spam, and so affiliate marketing continues to get a bad reputation on the bookmarking (and just about all social based) community sites.
its not the site that matters, its the strategy you use to leverage that site that will determine if it works for you. Its pretty much the same thing with all "link building" options.
