IMO, as long as you have properly placed your ad/link in the right category- it's fine. Of course you need to read the terms and conditions of each ad site, especially when it comes to placing your ads and links. I also suggest you only pick websites that have high PR. Forget the ones that are low in page rank.

One can go with classified ads for the promotion of their services and products but doing spam in promotion is not good activity. It is not recommended to do classified ad submissions just to increase backlinks. One should submit their ads in authority classified ad submission sites and keep themselves active there.

Your ad can get a lot of hits if it is placed in the feature ad spot of the classified ad sites. Otherwise ads tend to take back seats and get buried into the past!
