Tell more information about bitcoin!

Hi guys! I'm thinking about cryptocurrencies, but honestly, I don't understand a damn thing about bitcoins. Can someone explain in a nutshell what it is and whether it's worth investing in this bitcoin for a normal person now?

 Thanks for the info. It seems bitcoin is a real casino. I would like to know more about how to invest. Any other pitfalls to be aware of?
