Looking For A Mentor

Hey Guys,
I'm new to the affiliate marketing industry, but I've already started to gather my email list. I was hoping to connect with someone to mentor me through this process and discuss strategies and best practices.

 I would be interested in some guidance from you regarding the creation of an email list. I am just now starting the process of setting one up. I have heard you have to offer some type of freebie, otherwise no one will sign up.
In my case it will be a free subscription to a monthly chess newsletter I will create. Have you ever used Simple Aweber Optin Widget? This plugin creates an optin form on the sidebar. What method did you use to create your email list?
I have heard that the FTC is requiring affiliate marketing sites to conspicuously say they are advertising products in exchange for affiliate commissions.
As far as email marketing is concerned, the law requires you to give the subscriber the option of cancelling. Companies like Aweber will automatically remove subscribers when they click on an optout link.

The best way to find a mentor is to search on the IM forums for the more experienced users.
You should search for users that have more than 1000 posts and just ask them if they want to be your mentor.

 Best advice i can give is to contact affiliate bloggers and seek some guidance. There are many people out there with years and years of wealth in knowledge that are busting at the seams.

Just have a look on google for affiliate bloggers and contact a few of them to gather some pointers or just to talk. You never know what you are going to learn from someone unless you ask.

Hi Dexter, i would be very willing to help you to answer any of your doubts or questions on affiliate marketing. I started out struggling like you as well.

Now that you start to gather email list, now is to build relationship with your subscribers. Don't email them with promotional email constantly as that will not build trust at all. Instead, build relationship and integrate promotional emails from time to time to make sales. But crafting a compelling email is another big topic to learn tho.
