Problems with Using Amazon Associates
I've been wondering why my website has 44 clicks on ShareaSale links but zero for Amazon and zero for House of Staunton. I now know with certainty what the problem is with Amazon. I am likely to remove all the Amazon links on my website and replace them with something else.
I went to the library and pretended to be a customer. I typed "Clover's Chess Store" at the Google prompt. I went to a product page and clicked on one of the Amazon links to a certain product. I then saw a very intimidating message from Amazon that said: "Please confirm that you want to add this item your cart." 19 out of 20 people will bail in a heartbeat when they see something like that. The customer is given no option of checking out testimonials or other information about the product before adding the item to his cart.
Amazon gives the customer the option of clicking on "No thanks. Please return me to Amazon.com." If the customer clicks on the "No thanks" link 2 things immediately happen: The record of someone clicking on the link is trashed. The customer is sent to a generic Amazon screen. Even if the customer ends up buying the advertised product or another in the same category, the affiliate marketer gets zero credit because Amazon has trashed any record of the click at the referring website.
It's probably a 100% sure bet that at least a few dozen visitors to my site DID click on Amazon links. I received no credit for it because of the intimidating Amazon message which would nearly always cause any record of the click to be trashed.
