How To Create An Infographic And Gain Quality Backlinks

There’s no doubt infographics have grown to become a key strategy in many bloggers’ marketing strategies.

It’s no surprise why posts with infographics are 30 times more likely to be read than a purely textual article.

In fact, according to from 2015 to 2016, the use of visual content presented in articles increased by a whopping 130%, with 41.5% of marketers agreeing that illustrations, especially infographics performed best with their audience. (Source: Louisem)

This shouldn’t be surprising.

Simply because as humans, we are preconditioned to processing visual information rather than simple plain text...

…and nothing gets better than viewing statistical data and facts, as a compelling, eye-catching image, right?

The purpose of this lesson isn’t to give you a rundown on facts about how important visual marketing is...

It’s to show you how you can create awesome infographics yourself, to gain quality backlinks back to your site.

Building backlinks via infographics is an effective marketing strategy, because you’ll be rewarded with great traffic in return.

Plus, on top of that, you’ll be rewarded by being pushed up the Google algorithm as you’ll have many sites linking back to yours, indicating to Google that your site is of great value to other people in your space.

And, of course, infographics can also reward you greatly in terms of gaining more leads, which you can encourage to opt-in to your subscriber list and turn into paying customers in the backend.

Nevertheless, knowing about the potential ROI of an infographic is no good if you firstly don’t even know how to create one.

So let me show you how. It’s not as hard as you might imagine.

The great thing about it is, you don’t have to be a graphic designer, photo editor or good with visual design to be able to create one.

Read on to learn more…

Any marketer that utilizes infographics will tell you that there are 3 key elements to creating an awesome infographic:

1. Eye-catching design: your infographic needs to be appealing enough to grab the readers attention.

2. Captivating statistical insight: as well as being able to provide well-researched data, the data needs to be relevant and interesting itself.

3. Well promoted: Just like any product or lead magnet on your site, an infographic needs to be promoted strategically in order to gain those quality backlinks.

All of these three combined will result in amazing infographic that earns lots of social shares and backlinks to your site.

Here’s how to do it…

Creating Your Infographic

Before creating your infographic, you need to choose which topic your infographic is going to be on.

In order to do this, you’ll need to do some keyword research on Google Images, to get an idea of what type of graphics have already been made.

I’m sure you know what topic your infographics going to be made round, but for this example, let’s imagine I want to create an infographic based around visual marketing.

The first step, is type in [keyword] + infographics in to Google Images as shown below.

The next step is going to require a little more brain power.

You see, you don’t want to create just some any old average infographic to add to the list.

You want to create an infographic that stands out from the pack.

Doing so is what’s going to earn you those viral share and backlinks, so you need to think of all the ways you can create an infographic better than the ones shown.

Open up a spreadsheet and list 10-15 ideas under your keyword topic that you feel could be potential ideas to create an infographic on.

When you’ve hone down on one topic, you can move onto the next step, which is creating your infographic.

In order to create an infographic that’s shareable and a go-to resource for other marketers in your niche, you may need to invest a little money along the way.

There’s a range of sites that provide a range of templates themes and tools to create infographics, but here are my top three recommendations:

Fivver:

You can hire freelancers on Fiverr to design an infographic for you, for as little as $5. However, if you’re looking for some real quality, you’re going to need to spend a little more this.

Simply send them a job description of how you want your infographic designed so they understand exactly how you want it.

The great thing about Fiverr is you can filter your search to find designers that can get the job done quickly.

You can also filter your search to only show freelancers that have good reviews. I would advise you to sort by “Average Customer Review”, this way you’ll be able to decide who you’d like to hire from the other customer’s best choices.

Fiverr, that’s something you should bear in mind if you want to create the best infographic possible.

Alternatively, sites such as Upwork and Guru are other similar sites that can do a great job at what you’re looking for.

Piktochart:

Piktochart also goes down as one of my favourites, as it allows to create your own infographic maker.

In comparison to Fiverr, some of you may like to have more of a control over how you create your infographic and prefer not to leave it all in the hands of a designer.

Piktochart is a great resource if you’re feeling creative and want to have a go at it yourself.

To gain access to their premium templates, it will require a cost you have to pay based on package plan, but it’s well worth the investment. They have a range of high quality designs you can choose from.

Visualy:

Visualy is another awesome tool armed with top quality freelancers who can get the job done for you.

They’ve worked with companies such as Twitter, Visa and Nike, so there’s no doubt they produce nothing but high-quality service for their customers.

Turn your image into an embedded code

Next step, is to turn your infographic into an embed code. This way, when other sites want to share your infographic with their audience, they can easily embed the code into their site.

Siege Media’s Embed Code Generator is your best option for this. Enter your image URL into the box, then copy and paste the generated code onto your site. Easy!

This way, when someone links to your infographic, your site will be a a quick backlink to your site.

Contact other bloggers to share your infographic

This is another powerful strategy that really gets your infographic out there in front of your audience.

But you don’t just want any blog to share your infographic, you want to spend time targeting blogs that share infographics on a frequent basis.

You can identify these sites by analysing the backlinks of other sites who share infographics.

Email them to request for an infographic share. Don’t appear too desperate or full-on, approach them in a kind manner, and if they see your infographic is of some great value, they would be more than happy to share your content with their audience.

Submit a press release

This gives you the chance to tell the story about your infographic, it’s main purpose and how it’s aimed to serve your readers in the best way possible.

If you’re press release and infographic provides great value, journalists from huge online publications will pick you up and share your content on their site.

Submit your infographic to free submission sites

This is a quick, easy method to promote your infographic in order to earn more exposure.

Here’s a list of submission sites you can submit your infographic to:

  • Nerd Journal
  • Only Infographic
  • Pure Infographics
  • Nerd Graph
  • Infographic Alley

Are you ready to create your infographic?

So, I’ve shown you how to create great infographics, now it’s down to you.

You already know the importance of utilizing visual information, and an infographic is the perfect way to combine both statistical data and visual graphics together.

Follow these steps to create infographics that go viral, and don’t forget to overdeliver with your design and push hard to promote your infographic as much as possible, with the tips I’ve shown you here.
